Laguna Remodel

Set into the hillside of Laguna Beach, this residential remodel and detached ADU project was shaped by a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. The design extends that connection from the front entry through the rear of the property, incorporating an existing koi pond, outdoor reading nook, yoga platform, and landscaped gathering spaces. An exterior patio creates an additional place for entertaining and enjoying the hillside setting, while the architecture combines beach-inspired modern design with contemporary and midcentury influences, natural wood, and subtle Asian-inspired details.

Inside, the existing home was reorganized to create a brighter, more open, and connected living environment while incorporating principles of Feng Shui into the placement and flow of the spaces. The stair was relocated and the primary suite was reconfigured as a more private retreat with direct access to a dedicated outdoor deck. Working within the constraints of the steep site and minimizing disruption to the existing landscape and surrounding properties, the design carefully balances openness and privacy while maintaining a strong connection to nature throughout.
